Proverbs 11

Proverbs 11. Verse 17 states, “A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel man brings trouble on himself”. A simple verse with deep meaning. Everyday we have a choice as to how we act. We can choose to be kind or cruel. We can choose to have a good day or a bad one, simply in our actions and attitude. When someone drops their books on the way to class, we can help them pick them up (show kindness) or laugh at their misfortune (cruelty). At work, when a co-worker is going through a rough time, the same thing applies, we can support them (listen, help, guide) or scoff at their story (poke fun at them, dismiss their pain). As the verse above states, kindness that we show not only helps the person we show it to, it benefits ourselves. However, the cruelty that we show not only hurts the one we give it to, it also brings trouble on ourselves. Everyday we have a choice, choose wisely, for each choice returns to you in kind. We reap what we sow.
