Proverbs 21 - Prepare for Battle

Verse 31 says, “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.” To me, this says a whole lot about how we need to act as Christians. For a long time, I prayed to God for specific things, then just waited around for them to happen. When they didn’t, I began to question whether or not my prayers were heard. I now see that they were, but God was waiting on me to make the first step.

I had to make the “horse…ready for the day of battle”, then rely on the Lord for victory. I see now where I had to work and plan for those things that I prayed for, do everything I possibly could to prepare, then trust in the Lord to see them through. For what would I learn, how would I grow, what glory could I bring to God if I just sat around all the time waiting? I need to hope for the best, plan for the worst, and trust in God for the victory.

I’m not saying that patience and waiting is a bad thing, many times that is all that is required; however, I’m saying if we truly want things to come to pass, and we pray about those things, if they are aligned with God’s will, then we must do everything in our power to get the ball rolling. Take the first step! Ready the horse for battle, but rely on God for the victory.

Lord, help me not to overstep my bounds, but also not to sit around waiting when you call me into action. Help me to do my part in your plan and trust You for the victory, all for Your glory.
