Proverbs 25 - Soul Refreshing

Verse 25 says, “Like cold water to a weary soul is good news from a distant land.” Oh, how this verse spoke to me today. For that is exactly what I received. I have not been feeling well for a while and today, my father called me with great news. This immediately lifted my soul, made me feel better. Isn’t it awesome how that happens, and there is a valuable lesson to be learned.

First, when you are down or depressed, seek out that uplifting news that quenches your weary soul like cool water. During times such as this, one tends to shy away from people, but don’t turn them all away, one uplifting word may be all it takes to turn you around. It can come from friends, loved ones, or scripture, keep searching, it is there.

Next, someone must be that bearer of good news from a distant land, so be that person to someone else. Take the time to call someone you haven’t spoken to in a while, write that thank you note or letter, email or text that friend. You may be surprised (or never really know) how much it meant to that person. It may be the cool, refreshing water they were looking for.

Finally, if good, uplifting news refreshes the soul, then negative words will harm. Keep those to yourself. Take the time to think before you speak, to see how you would feel if the same words were spoken to you. Be the person that refreshes one’s soul, not the one who helps destroy it.

Lord, thank you for Your enduring love, mercy, and hope. Thank you for those who spread uplifting words to refresh one’s spirit. Please, help me to be one who does just that and not one who spreads negative, harmful words.
