Have you ever given advice to someone or given them instructions to help them and they not follow them? Then they come to you and ask you to fix a bigger problem which was caused by them not listening? If so, then you know how frustrated and irritated that makes you feel. They wouldn’t even listen when you tried to help the first time, now they’re in a bigger mess wanting you to help again, but help them do it their way; what knuckleheads! However, we must think about how we treat God on a daily basis, sometimes pretty much the same as the knuckleheads.
Verse 9 says, “If anyone turns a deaf ear to the law, even his prayers are detestable.” Sometimes we don’t follow God’s laws or will, we try to do things our own way. Then, when things don’t work out, we pray earnestly for Him to help us. I am not referring to mistakes, but to outright defiance to God’s laws. We refuse to listen and pray for OUR will to be done, not God’s; this is detestable. Don’t “play around” with God! If you pray earnestly, then listen earnestly and follow earnestly.
Lord, please help me to listen and follow your laws, to pray earnestly for Your will and Your glory, not my own. For You know what is best for me and I never want my prayers to be detestable or frustrating to You.
