Verses 1-3 state, “(1) Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. (2) Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, (3) now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.”
Once again, a perfect three step program to glorifying the Lord. First, rid ourselves of our sinful past. Remove the malice and deceit. Avoid hypocrisy, envy and slander, which harm one another and bring disgrace to our Lord.
Next, we must not only seek the spiritual “milk”, but crave it! Seek spiritual nurturing from the Lord and all His goodness, through prayer, scripture, teachings of spiritual leaders.
Finally, for we have experienced the Lord’s goodness, seen His glory, been saved by His mercy and grace, and because we know it, we must live by it and share it with others.
Lord, thank you for your goodness, mercy and love. Help me to rid my life of evils and seek Your spiritual nourishment, to grow in Christ and glorify You. Amen.
