2 Timothy 1

Verse 7, “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline.” Wow, what a statement! Too many ties I tend to confuse the words humble and timid; but they are not the same. Sure we are to be humble, not self-serving, self-gratifying, or self-glorifying; we are to glorify God in everything we do. Don’t make the mistake of assuming Christian means weak. We serve the Almighty God, the Alpha and Omega, the One True God! He is never weak, nor are His followers, for He empowers us to do his will.

We are to be humble, that is not to say we should be timid or “pushovers” or “doormats”. When those we love are in danger of losing their way, we must stand strong, unafraid and defend. When the world attacks our faith, denounces the One True God, we must not only defend, we must attack for the honor and love of the Lord.

God has given us a spirit of power, to not be afraid and to have the ability to defend and strike for the glory of God. But also not to be abusive in power, which is why He also gave us a spirit of love and self-discipline.

We defend and attack, not to “be right” or “boost our pride”, but out of love for our Heavenly Father, for Christ Jesus, for our fellow Christians, for our families/friends, and for those who need the Lord.

We should be humble, but never timid, we should never be ashamed of our God, nor should we be timid or hold back when someone’s soul is on the line, I guarantee you, the other side won’t. So, remember you are a child of God, given a spirit of power, love and self-discipline, so stand tall and be proud and let the glory of God and Jesus Christ shine through you to others, who are desperately seeking salvation in a lost and dying world. Lord, please help us to do just that, all for Your glory.
