1 John 1 - We are all Sinners

“(8) If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. (9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (10) If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.”

This is a perfect message for all of us to remember. I am sure that, at one point in our lives, we have all been judged and have all judged others. We all know the frustration, disappointment, even anger, when we are judged by those who have a “holier than thou” attitude, those who act like they have no sin in their lives. However, Romans 3:23 says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” and as 1 John says above if we claim to be without sin, then we are calling God a liar, which is impossible and very dangerous for us to do. Therefore, we must learn from this and also be more forgiving as we view others. That is, remember how it felt when we were judged and not act like that toward others.

We must be more understanding and supportive, less condemning toward others. Remember, Matthew 7:1, "Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” I am not saying accept the sin, or condone it, quite the contrary, dislike the sin, but love the sinner. Realize that WE ALL SIN, and only the blood of Jesus Christ can wash away that sin. Make no mistake, there is no other price that can be paid for your sin, no amount of good deeds, money, or love can take away sin. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” God bless and keep you.
