1 John 4 - Check the Source

“ (1) Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. (2) This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,”.

What a powerful message and word of warning to us all. We live in an age of instant information, with 24 hour news channels, Internet, and mobile communications; we literally are bombarded with information and differing points of view around the clock.
Consciously or unconsciously, we use this information to make decisions in our daily life. How do we know what is correct and what is wrong? Simply look at the verses above, if they run contrary to the Gospel then they are not of God and are wrong.

The ideas, feelings, yearnings, (whatever you call them) that you have, that you feel you are being led to do, compare them to the Word of God and see how they hold up. If they go against the Bible, against the teachings of our Savior, Jesus Christ, then DON’T DO THEM, they are not from God.

I know I went all over the place in this text, and I hope I haven’t confused or lost anyone. Simply put, there will be people trying to sway you to justify your ungodly actions by saying you deserve it or God would understand; I’m saying here is what God understands and is saying, The Bible! You will also hear people teaching other ways of eternal life or ways to Heaven without Jesus Christ. Here is what I’m saying to that, what the Bible says, John 14:6 “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’.” Period.
