“19Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, ‘Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.’ 20Jesus replied, ‘Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head’." This verse has two meanings to me, one obvious and one implied.
First, Jesus spoke to the teacher in this manner to let the man know that the road ahead will be tough, since Jesus had no resting place. There is no telling where the man may end up and what he would have to face for following Jesus. It is easy to say you will do something when you don’t know the full cost, but a different thing entirely when you are faced with it.
Secondly, it is great to see that Jesus had no resting place here on earth, because He was not of this earth and not meant to be bound by it. He is risen and with the Father in Heaven! Hallelujah! We don’t have to roam the world seeking Jesus, we can talk with Him, walk with Him anywhere in the world, for He can be found in us through the Holy Spirit. Aren’t you glad of that?
