Mark 8 - My Will or God's Will be Done?

33But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. "Get behind me, Satan!" he said. "You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."

We are quick to judge Peter, but we do the same thing in our lives. We hear from God, just as Peter heard from Jesus, and say, “No, that will not happen, I won’t let it”, yet we are imposing OUR will and OUR human understanding to God’s plan. We cannot do that. Just as Jesus rebuked, we must rebuke the enemy and evil spirit of our own earthly desires and let God’s will and the Holy Spirit be our guide and driving force. When we take the focus off of our own needs, desires, understanding, and will, then God will work through us for His plan to develop and grow. And you know that God’s will is much better than our own. Amen?

Just think, if it were possible (which it wasn’t) for Peter to keep Jesus from dying, which was Peter’s desire at this point, we would not have salvation available to us! Isn’t God’s plan much better than Peter’s? Shouldn’t we stop thinking like Peter and listen more to God?
