Mark 9 - Once Again, FAITH

At one point in this chapter, a man whose son is possessed by an evil spirit ask if Jesus could heal his son, even after the disciples couldn’t. “23" 'If you can'?" said Jesus. "Everything is possible for him who believes." 24Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!"

What an awesome message for us. Jesus answered a questioning, doubting “spirit” with solid words of faith and assurance. Too many times we ask in prayer without really believing an answer is there. We stand up from praying and might think, “I hope God answers my prayer”, in my opinion, this is not true faith. There is no “hoping” when we converse with our Heavenly Father, He is supreme! He can do any and everything, we should not doubt. In Matthew 7:7 it is written, “Ask and it will be given to you”; however, the world comes crashing in on us and we doubt. Why?

We are human and most of the time need tangible evidence of things to truly believe them, hence the old adage, “seeing is believing”, however, Hebrews 11:1“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Therefore, when we doubt, we must respond as the man in this story did, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!". We sometime fail, we sometimes doubt, we are human, but God is divine! He can and will help us through, all we have to do is ask.

So if you find yourself doubting, needed more faith, questioning God, then ask Him to help you overcome your unbelief and praise Him more. We all fall, but not everyone asks or lets God pick them back up. Amen?
